Recognition to Students:

Delta State University Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) received the following recognitions:

Amanda Cook, senior DSU nursing student, won Mississippi Student Nurses of the Year.

Five DSU students were elected and served as officers on the Mississippi Association of Student Nurses’ Board: Steven Anthony, President; Amanda Smith, Second Vice-President, Josh Edwards, Pulsepoint Editor; Kellie Wier, Northwest Representative; Amanda Cook, Student Nurse of the Year.

Six DSU students served as delegates for MASN State Convention: Steven Anthony, Amanda Smith, Kellie Wier, Tracy Ponnath, Katie Sigler, Ronnie Warrington.

DSU SNA was awarded “Achievement for Most Service Projects”.

DSU SNA participated in DSU cholesterol screening, peripheral vascular disease screening, relay for life, blue jeans for babies, taught hygiene classes for 5th grades, collected personal items for Helping Hands, sent donations, water, dog food and vitamins to September 11 ground zero, gave blood for New York, gave out red, white & blue ribbons to hospital personnel, physicians, and patients, and volunteered at the Lighthouse Lodge (to Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center’s patient families) and at Camp Rainbow (Mississippi Cancer Children’s Camp). SNA sponsored at blood drive at DSU.

Eight DSU SNA students attended National Student Nurses’ Association Convention: Steven Anthony, Rebecca McCaskill, Dannette Brown, Ruth Ann Lopez, Amanda Smith, Kellie Wier, Josh Edwards, and Amanda Cook.


Omicron Delta Kappa:
Nursing students members are Amanda Cook (senior), Josh Edwards (senior), and Nicole Payne (junior).
 

Phi Kappa Phi:
New members inducted into Phi Kappa Phi were Nicole Payne (junior) and Denise Young (senior).
 

Pi Xi Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing:
New members inducted were Steven Anthony (junior), Lacey Blessitt (junior), Melissa Coslet (junior), Sharon Durr (junior), Josh Edwards (senior), Betty Fellner (senior), Sarah Harrison (senior), Kristina Holman (junior), Jennie Sherard (senior), Katie Sigler (junior), Dana Wages (senior), Kellie Wier (junior), and Denise Young (senior).

Pass Rates

Pass rates for RN licensure for class graduating Spring 2002 are pending. First write for pass rate for Spring 2001 class was 92% (22/24).

Pass rates for certification for family nurse practitioner for Fall 2001 class are pending. First write pass rate for Fall 2000 class was 88% (15/17).
