Bill Moses

Employee of the Month

Bill Moses, Newswriter and Director of Photography in University Relations, was chosen Employee of the Month for May, 2005.  He was born in Greenwood and graduated from Cleveland High School.  Bill’s educational credentials include a BSE in Social Studies from Delta State, a BA in Photography from Sam Houston State University, and a Master of Education in History from Delta State.  He came to Delta State in September of 1998 and has taught journalism classes.

 Bill resides in Ruleville with his wife Teresa, 2 daughters, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.  He has 2 grandchildren and enjoys yard work.  We honor him for his over-and-beyond service to DSU students, faculty and staff.  Congratulations, Bill!  

Barbara Knight
April 2005
Employee of the Month

Barbara Knight, Senior Secretary in the Division of Biological and Physical Sciences, was selected Employee of the Month for April. Barbara is a Cleveland native, was educated in the Cleveland public school system, and is currently working toward a degree in child development at Delta State. She is married to Robert Knight and has two stepsons. Coming to DSU after 23 years with Baxter and DuoFast, Barbara was employed in Telecommunications from May, 2000 to December, 2003, when she transferred to the sciences. According to division chair John Tiftickjian, ‘Barbara has been the glue that holds the division together. I can’t imagine the division surviving without her.’ Congratulations, Barbara!

Patti Boswell

Employee of the Month

March's Employee of the Month is Patti Boswell, Senior Secretary in the Office of Field Experiences.  Patti is a Cleveland native, was educated in the Cleveland public school system, and attended Delta State.  She and husband Billy Boswell are avid DSU sports fans.  Patti has been employed at DSU since the spring of 1977, serving in Information Technology Services as computer operator, coordinator of computer operations, and user support analyst until June 30, 2004, and then transferring to the College of Education on July 1.  According to supervisor Susan Lee, "Patti is without question one of the most loyal of DSU's staff.  She is great at her job, a true supporter of our college and so wonderful to our students."  Congratulations, Patti!

Gaye Holecek

Employee of the Month

Gaye Holecek was chosen as Employee of the Month for February, 2005.  Gaye has been employed as Senior Secretary in the Division of Family and Consumer Science since 1998.  She came to DSU from Barfield, Lindsey, Gainspoletti & Gladden, CPAs, where she worked four years.  A Cleveland native, Gaye received her BBA degree in Management in 1989 from DSU.  She has two children—Gary, who is a DSU physical plant employee, and Emily, an eighth grader.  Upon receiving her plaque and other gifts, she said, “I am excited, surprised, appreciative, and shocked!”

Danny Tharp

Employee of the Month

DSU Police Officer Danny Tharp was chosen as Employee of the Month for January, 2005.  Danny has been employed in the DSU Police Department since December of 2002.  Son of Eugene and Eloise Tharp, Danny was born in Cleveland and educated in the Cleveland School District.  He is married to Carolyn Fay Tharp.  Danny became a certified police officer in 2001 by attending Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy.  For over twenty years he has served with Bolivar County Fire Department District I, having served as chief.  He also has over twenty years’ experience with Bolivar Emergency Management, also having served as chief.  He is a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge and is a certified hazardous materials handler and a medical first responder.   A humble man, his reply to being congratulated for this honor was, “I was just doing my job.”

Rosetta Todd Scott

Employee of the Month

Rosetta Todd Scott was chosen as Employee of the Month for the month of November, 2004.  Rosetta has been employed as a custodian at DSU since August of 1998, presently serving in Kent Wyatt Hall.  She is a native of Cleveland and attended school in Rosedale.  Rosetta was married on November 27, 2004, to Lewis Scott, a paramedic.  She has four children and one grandchild.  Rosetta always has a warm, pleasant attitude and takes great pride in her work.

Dianne Schattner

Employee of the Month

Dianne Schattner, Library Technology Associate, has been chosen as the October Staff Employee of the Month. Dianne began working at Delta State in 1994 at the Roberts LaForge Library in the Circulation Department and holds her current position at the library. She is an at-large member of staff council representing technology staff. Dianne is also on the Technology Across Campus committee. She is married to Ralph Schattner and they have one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Caroline. Even though Dianne is not a native of Mississippi, she still calls Cleveland home.

Lucille McCool

Employee of the Month

Lucille McCool, Senior Secretary in the Department of Social Work, has been chosen as the September Staff Employee of the Month. Lucille began working at DSU in March of 1987 as the secretary in the Social Work department and is still there today. She is married to Perry McCool. They have two sons and six grandchildren.

Deleslyn Dakin

Employee of the Month

Deleslyn Dakin, Administrative Secretary to the Dean of the College of Education, has been chosen as the August Staff Employee of the Month. Deleslyn has a Bachelor of Science in Business Education degree from Mississippi State University. She also has a Library Science certification from Delta State University. Deleslyn started to work for DSU in July 1982 as Secretary for the Office of Field Experiences. In July of 1986, she transferred to the Dean of Education Office. She has served as secretary to three consecutive deans in the College of Education. Delelsyn is married to Cameron Dakin, and they have one daughter.

Employee of the Month

Johnny Kimbrough, Assistant Director of Arts Education at the Bologna Performing Arts Center, has been chosen as the July Staff Employee of the Month. Johnny graduated from Alabama Southern College with degrees in Communication and the Liberal Arts. He decided to further his education here at DSU and received his BME. Johnny said he is honored to be a part of the family oriented environment of Delta State University.

Kathy Givens

Employee of the Month

Kathy Givens, Accounts/Payable Administrative Clerk, has been chosen as the June Staff Employee of the Month. Kathy graduated from Austin High School in Decatur, Al and attended Mississippi Delta Community College. Kathy worked as a bookkeeper at Cleveland State Bank and Lowery's Jewelry before coming to Delta State. In January, 1994 she became senior secretary in the Human Resource Office and transferred to the Accounts Payable Office in April, 1997. She has enjoyed her 9 1/2 years here and loves her DSU family. Kathy is married to Galen Givens and they reside in Cleveland.

Virginia Foley

Employee of the Month

Virginia Foley, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, has been chosen as the May Staff Employee of the Month. Virginia began working at Delta State in January, 1988 as Secretary to the Dean of Nursing and in June, 1992 transferred to her current position. She is a native of Cleveland and a graduate of Cleveland High School. Virginia received a BSE degree in Social Studies and Art from DSU. She is married to Tim Foley and they reside in Cleveland.

Marie Beckham

Employee of the Month

Marie Beckham, Senior Secretary in the department of Field Experiences, has been chosen as the April Staff Employee of the Month. Marie came to work at Delta State in August 1994 and will be retiring from that same position June 30, 2004. She is a native of Pascagoula, Ms and a 1956 graduate of Pascagoula High School and went on to graduate from Mississippi State College for Women. Marie is married to Buck Beckham and they have three children; the youngest one is a graduate of DSU. Marie said her years at Delta State have been wonderful and she will miss working with the administration, faculty, staff, and students .

Loretta Holmes

Employee of the Month

Loretta Holmes, Library Assistant II Catalog for the Roberts-LaForge Library, has been chosen as the March Staff Employee of the Month. Loretta is a native of Shaw, Mississippi. She graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas and received an Associate Art degree in 1975 from Donnelly College in Kansas. Loretta began working at Delta State University on July 1, 1978 in the W. B. Roberts Library. She is married to Peter Holmes and they have two children, a son Maurice and a daughter Catrina.

Bert Herbison

Employee of the Month

Delta State University honors Bert Herbison as Employee of the Month for February 2004.   Bert has been employed as Senior Secretary in the Art Department since August 1990. She serves on various university committees including Staff Council, the Driving Team, and the Attendance Appeals Committee.  Bert is currently working toward a BBA in Office Administration here at DSU.  She and her husband, Joey, reside in Cleveland.

Beverly Lindsey

Employee of the Month

Delta State University honors Beverly Lindsey as Employee of the Month for the month of January, 2004.  Beverly has been employed as Accountant I in the University Accounting office since December of 2002.  She was previously employed at UAP Midsouth, where she was office manager.  Beverly is a native of Cleveland, graduating from Cleveland High School.  She received a BBA degree in Accounting from Delta State University in 1989.  She and her husband John have two daughters, Kayleigh and Kressie.

Delisa Parker

Employee of the Month

Delisa Parker, an Administrative Secretary for the President’s Office, has been chosen as the December Staff Employee of the Month.  Delisa is a native of Sarah, Mississippi. She attended Coldwater High School. She attended NWJC from 81-83’ where she received her Associate Degree. She transferred to Delta State University in the Fall 83’ and graduated in Spring 86’ with a BSW Degree. Prior to moving to Cleveland in June 93, she was employed for MS Employment Security Commission for approximately 6 ½ yrs. where she worked as an Interviewer I.  She began her employment at Delta State University on September 13, 1993 in the Purchasing Office.  She transferred to the President’s Office in July 1998.  Delisa is married to Donny Parker. She has a daughter Allyson and a step-daughter Priscilla. She and her family currently reside in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Hattie Brandon

Employee of the Month

Hattie Brandon, an H.L. Nowell Student Union Custodian, has been chosen as the November Staff Employee of the Month. Hattie began her work at Delta State on June 16, 1991 in Bond-Carpenter residence hall. In 1998, she was transferred to the Student Union building. A native of Shelby, Hattie attended school in Gunnison and later in 1992-1993 attended vocational-technical classes in Ewing Hall at DSU. Hattie is married to Will Brandon, Jr and they reside in Gunnison, Ms.

 

Jessie Eatmon

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Jessie Eatmon, grounds crew supervisor at the Physical Plant, as employee of the month for October. Jessie has lived in Cleveland most of his life. Before coming to work for Delta State, Jessie worked in maintenance at Simmons & Belk and Douglas& & Lomason. In August 1995, he started working in the DSU cafeteria and in May of 2001 moved to the physical plant. This past summer, Mr. Eatmon was promoted to his current position. Jessie is responsible for the crew that sets up facilities for special events, as well as, campus weed eating, edging and trimming. Jessie is a great asset to Delta State.

Employee of the Month

 

Delta State University is honoring Janice Arnold, secretary in History, as employee of the month for September. Janice is a native of Ruleville and a graduate of Ruleville High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Delta State. Janice began her employment with DSU as secretary in Institutional Research in 1970. In 1971, she left Delta State to manage a family business but returned in 1986 as secretary in the Alumni Office. Janice transferred to Student Affairs in 1989 to become Administrative Secretary to the Dean. In 1992, she moved to Tennessee where she lived for seven years before returning to Delta State where she has been secretary in the History Department since 1999.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Mose Bailey in the Shipping and Receiving Department at the Physical Plant as employee of the month for August. Mose started his employment with DSU on the ground crew in August 2000 and later moved to shipping and receiving. Before coming to Delta State, he worked at D& L from 1972 until they closed in 1993 and Modern Line from 1993 until they closed in 2000. Mose is a 1971 graduate of McEvans High School and has lived in Shaw, Mississippi all his life.

Delta State University is honoring Sandra Morton, Senior Secretary for Arts Education at the Bologna Performing Arts Center, as staff employee of the month for July. Since joining the staff at the Bologna Performing Arts Center in the summer of 2000, she has been VERY active with all the Children's Matinees, Summer Arts and Summer Arts Plus programs.   A native of Cleveland and a DSU alumnae, Sandra lived in Houston, Texas and San Francisco, CA before moving back nine years ago.  While living away, she was in the Commercial Interior Design business.

Delta State University is honoring Stella Woods, Administrative
Assistant in Human Resources, as staff employee of the month for June. Stella started at DSU in August, 1991 as Senior Secretary in the Mathematics Department. In January 2000, Woods transferred to the Human Resource Department as Senior Secretary. She was promoted to her present position in January, 2003. Before coming to Delta State, Stella was employed with Commonwealth National Life Insurance for 9 years.
 

May 2003
Employee of the Month

Elaine White, Custodian in the Student Health Services, was honored as staff employee of the month for May.  She has been employed with Delta State since January, 1993.  Elaine goes above and beyond the call of duty by being very helpful and friendly to the students.  She is a graduate of South Panola High School in Batesville, Mississippi.  She worked for several local florists prior to her employment with Delta State.

Employee of the Month



Joyce Campbell, Head Cashier in the Mill, was honored as staff employee of the month for April.  She began working in the Mill in August, 1997 as a Grill Cook.  She has worked her way to her present position as Head Cashier.  Not only does Joyce run the cash register, but she maintains all the duties of the customer area on her own except for extremely busy times.  Joyce is a graduate of East Side High School here in Cleveland.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honored Mary Hankins, Research Analyst in the Institutional Research and Planning Office, as the Staff Employee of the Month for March 2003.  Hankins received a BBA in Banking and Finance from Mississippi State University in 1988 and will receive a BBA in Computer Information Systems from DSU in May.  She began working at DSU in August 1994 as Senior Clerk in the Registrar’s Office and in November 2001 she transferred to her current position.  She presented a paper at the Mid South Educational Research Association’s 2002 annual conference and was a facilitator at the Mississippi Association for Institutional Research’s 2003 annual conference

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Mary Robbins, Senior Secretary in the department of CIS-OAD, as the Staff Employee of the Month for February.  Robbins worked for Dr. John K. Abide for 17 years until his death. She came to work for DSU in August of 1983 as Secretary in the CIS -OAD Department. In July of 1994 she was named Senior Secretary and remains in that position today.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Linda Douglas, Senior Secretary in the Division of Social Sciences, as the Staff Employee of the month for January.  Douglas is a 1970 graduate of Delta State University where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting.  For three years after graduation she worked in the DSU Business Office.  Then after fourteen years at home, she returned to Delta State in March of 1987 as the Secretary of Institutional Research.  In 1989 she transferred to her present position.

Employee of the Month

Patsy Burchfield, Administrative Assistant to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University, was honored as the “Staff Employee of the Month”, for December 2002.  Burchfield has been a member of DSU staff since 1988 when she began work as a part-time secretary for the Delta Area Writing Project.  In 1992 she became the secretary for the department of Economics and Finance.  She served as the publications secretary for Academic Affairs from 1995 until she took her present position in 1998.  Burchfield attended Holmes Junior College and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from MSU.  She is a resident of Cleveland, MS.

Delta State University is honoring Sharon Kuhn, Alumni Senior Secretary, as the Staff Employee of the Month for November. Kuhn, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been a member of the Delta State staff since March of 2001. She began her career at Delta State in the Alumni Office and continues there today. Sharon is a graduate of Churchill High School and Pollock's Beauty School in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Delta State University is honoring Jason Umfress, Coordinator of Student Development, as the Staff Employee of the Month for October. Umfress, a native of Hatley, Mississippi has been a member of the Delta State staff since July of 2001. He began his career here as the Coordinator of Student Development in the Division of Student Affairs. He is a graduate of Hatley High School and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in CIS from Delta State University.

Delta State University is honoring Margie Millican, Purchasing Agent at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for September. Millican, a native of Bolivar County, has been a member of the Delta State staff since September of 1981. She began her career here as the Executive Secretary for Purchasing and was promoted to her present position in July of 1993. She is a graduate of Merigold High School and has taken business courses at the University of Mississippi and computer courses at Delta State University.

The Incentives and Recognition Committee of Delta State University's Staff Council is honoring Kristi Pantin as the Staff Employee of the Month for August. Pantin, a resident of Cleveland, graduated from Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Delta State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. She was first employed at Delta State in March 2001 as the Senior Secretary in the Admissions Office. In August 2001, she joined School Relations and Recruiting as an Enrollment Counselor. Kristi is currently working on a Master of Business Administration degree at Delta State.

Delta State University is honoring Crechale Stevens as the Staff Employee of the Month for July. Stevens, a resident of Cleveland, graduated from Clinton High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College. She was first employed at Delta State in March 1998 as the Senior Secretary in the Bologna Performing Arts Center and in June 2001 was promoted to the position of Administrative Assistant at the BPAC.

 Employee of the Month
Delta State University is honoring Karen Haney, Telecommunications Senior Clerk at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for June. Haney, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since September 2000. She graduated from Bayou Academy in Cleveland and is currently pursuing a degree in Consumer Relations at DSU. Karen's mother, Judy, works in the School of Nursing, and her father, Robert, recently retired from the DSU Police Department.

Employee of the Month
Delta State University is honoring James Marquis, Electrician at the Physical Plant of Delta State University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for May. Marquis, a native of Hollandale, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1992 when he began working part-time for Golf and Grounds. Later, in 1994, he transferred to Telecommunications as an electrician/telecommunications assistant. In 1997, he began working as as electrician for the Physical Plant. Marquis has a degree in electronics technology from Mississippi Delta Community College.

Employee of the Month
Delta State University honors Jo Ellen Ferguson, Administrative Bookkeeper in University Accounting, as the Staff Employee of the Month for March. Jo Ellen is a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, graduated from Louisa County High School and attended Oxnard Community College in Oxnard, California. She is currently pursuing a Business Administration degree at Delta State University. Jo Ellen came to Delta State with banking experience from The Valley
Bank in February, 2000. She is responsible for the data entry of all
daily transactions into Banner, reconciliation of bank accounts, payroll processes, and many miscellaneous reports.

 Employee of the Month
Delta State University is honoring Jane Waldrup, Head of Circulation at the DSU Library, as the Staff Employee of the Month for February. Waldrup, a native of Ruleville, graduated from Ruleville High School and attended Mississippi Delta Community College. She is presently pursuing a degree in Management at Delta State University. Jane Waldrup began her career at DSU on July 1, 1981, as Circulation Clerk in the W.B.Roberts Library. In 1984, she was promoted to Library Assistant in the same department. Promoted again in 1996 to her current position, she now manages the operations of this public service department and is responsible for patron registration, materials check-out and check-in, stack maintenance, the Reserve collection and copy services.

Delta State University is honoring Christie Harrison, Senior Secretary in Student Financial Assistance, as the Staff Employee of the Month for January. Harrison, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1991 when she began her employment here as a secretary in the Telecommunications Department. She moved to her position in Financial Assistance in 1997. A graduate of Bayou Academy in Cleveland, Christie continued her education at MDCC. She is currently working on a Bachelor's Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at DSU.

Employee of the Month

The Incentives and Recognition Committee of the Administrative Staff Council at Delta State University has selected Sandy Ray, Administrative Assistant for the Division of Continuing Education at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for December. Ray, a graduate of Cleveland High School, is completing requirements for her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management at Delta State. She has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1994 when she worked as the Coordinator of User Request and Data Entry in ITS. She left the campus briefly and returned as the Senior Secretary in Admissions. In 1998 she moved to the office of Continuing Education to become the Senior Secretary for the department.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring William R. Miller, Jr., an employee of the Physical Plant at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for June. Miller, a native of Cleveland and a graduate of Cleveland High School, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1981. He joined the Delta State staff as a carpenter for the Physical Plant and continues to work in that capacity. The Incentives and Recognition Committee of the Administrative Staff Council recognizes a staff employee on a monthly basis.

Employee of the Month

Esch, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of then Delta State staff since 1998. She joined the Delta State family as Senior Clerk of the Physical Plant. She is a graduate of Cleveland High School and attended Delta State University prior to her employment. The Incentives and Recognition Committee of the Administrative Staff Council, recognizes a staff employee on a monthly basis.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Sandy Pittman, Bookkeeper for the Delta State Alumni/Foundation, as the Staff Employee of the Month for April. She joined the Delta State staff a year ago as the Alumni Secretary and transferred to the Bookkeeper position in March. Pittman, a native of Columbus who lives in Cleveland, received a BA degree in history from Delta State in May 1997.

Employee of the Month

Delta State University is honoring Odealier Morgan, a Laundry employee at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for March. Mrs. Morgan began working at the Delta State University Laundry in 1958, retired for a brief period and quickly realized she missed her DSU family and returned to work. Even though she is only scheduled for 36 hours every two weeks, she prefers working 80 hours. She never complains, is always on time and everyday leaving work says, "Hope to see you in the morning". She has been featured in DELTA CURRENTS, as well as newspaper articles and television.

Delta State University is honoring Jerry Taylor, Senior Cashier and Loan
Representative in the Office of the Bursar at the University, as the Staff
Employee of the Month for February.
Taylor, a resident of Shaw, is a graduate of Cleveland High School and has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1971. Taylor joined the Delta State staff as a clerical secretary in the Business Office.

Delta State University is honoring Gracie Harkins, Senior Secretary for the Delta State University Foundation, as the Staff employee of the Month for January. She has served in this position since 1995. Harkins, a long time resident of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1993. She joined the Delta State staff as a receptionist for the Alumni and Foundation House.

Delta State University is honoring Margaret Kelly,Assistant to the Director of accounting, as the Staff Employee of the Month for December. Kelly, a native of Drew who lives in Gore Springs, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1983. She is a graduate of Drew High School and attended Delta State University. Kelly joined the Delta State staff as a clerk in the National Direct Student Loan Office. She is a certified bookkeeper through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. The Incentives and Recognition Committee of the Administrative Staff Council, recognizes a staff employee  on a monthly basis.

Marshall Cole, Telecommunications
Technical Supervisor at the University,
is the Staff Employee of the Month for
November. Cole, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since September of 1998, and is a graduate of Cleveland High School with further education at Mississippi Delta Community College in industrial electricity and basic electronics. Cole joined the Delta State staff as a Telecommunications Technician.

Leigh Smith, Senior Secretary of the
Student Development Union Office, is the Staff Employee of the Month for October 2000. Smith, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1994 and previously worked in the DSU Police Department and at the DSU Airport.


September 2000
Employee of the Month

Cherrier Richardson, a Postal Clerk of the University, is the Staff Employee of the Month for September 2000. Richardson, a native of Cleveland and a graduate of East Side High School, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1990.
