To format a disk

  1. Insert the floppy disk in Drive A.
  2. Open My Computer, and then click the disk you want to format.
  3. On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format.
  4. Specify the Capacity.
  5. Click Start.

Additional Notes

  • Formatting a disk erases all information on that disk.
  • Quick Format removes files from the disk without scanning the disk for bad sectors. Use this option only if the disk has been previously formatted, and you are sure the disk is not damaged. For information about any of the options, click the question mark in the upper-right corner of the Format dialog box, and then click the option.
  • You cannot format a disk if files are open on the disk, the contents of the disk are displayed, or the disk contains the system or boot partition.
  • You can also format a disk by using Disk Management.

 

To Copy Files from the Network to a Disk

 

  1.    Double -click My Computer
  2.   In the right pane, click Apps on venus
  3.   In the right pane, double click Documents
  4.   Double-click Computer Information Systems
  5.   Double-click CIS 205
  6.   Double-click Go! With Microsoft Office 2007
  7.   Click Edit à Select All
  8.   Click File  à Send To  à Select Appropriate Drive and press OK.

 Close all windows when are finished copying the files.

 To make a backup copy of a secondary storage device.

  1. Insert the device into the appropriate drive.
  2. Open My Computer.
  3. Click to select the drive you want to copy.
  4. On the File menu, click Copy Disk.
  5. Click the drive you want to copy from and the drive you want to copy to, and then click Start.
  6. Follow the instructions on your screen.

  

 

You can only copy the student data files for CIS 205 from one of the Broom labs.  The files are also stored within the assignments link in your WebCT course.
