Attendance

Regular attendance is strongly suggested.  The Delta State University Bulletin states that students must attend at least 75 percent of the scheduled classes.  Excused absences are those due to illness, death of an immediate family member, or attending an official university function.  Excused absences allow you to make up missed assignments given on the day of your excused absence.  Excused absences count towards your total days absent from the course.  Students who wish to discontinue the class should officially drop the course; otherwise a grade of “F” will be recorded.   (2006-2007 DSU Bulletin, 50)

I suggest that you make every class meeting and please be on time.  Attendance is recorded at the beginning of every class.  In the event that you are tardy, it is your responsibility to report your presence immediately after class on the day that you are tardy.  Failure to report tardiness results in an absence.  For every two days tardy, one absence is recorded.

Make Up Work

In the case of absences, it is the student’s responsibility to determine what work has been missed. Examination dates are listed on the schedule.  You are expected to take examinations at these times.  However, any test missed for an excused absence will be taken in the time period denoted on the schedule.  Makeup tests are only given for excused absences.

Homework Assignments

Prepare all assignments as neatly as possible.  Double check your homework before turning it in to make sure that all assigned exercises are included in your homework packet.  Assignments are to be turned in on the date given by the instructor; late assignments are penalized 20%.  No credit will be given for work that is more than one week late.

Online Course Management

Blackboard CE 6 is used extensively in this section of Microcomputer Applications to store course content on the web at a secure location.  This password protected site contains the schedule of activities for the course, PowerPoint files of lecture presentations, reference material, communications tools, online submissions of class work and homework files, video podcasts, and online grade reporting.  Myitlab will also be used to submit practice exercises which will allow instant feedback for homework exercises.  Hands-on applications test may also be administered using Myitlab.

It is the students’ responsibility to monitor their Blackboard and Myitlab accounts for up-to-date information concerning the course.

Grading System

Set a desired goal for the course and work towards that goal.  Extra credit assignments/projects will not be given to raise a grade for any reason.
