John J. Green, Ph.D., Director
John J. Green is founding Director of the Institute for Community-Based Research. A collaborative partnership between the Division of Social Sciences and the Center for Community and Economic Development, the Institute works with students, faculty and community organizations to engage in applied research. His research and teaching interests include sustainable development, globalization, food and agriculture, poverty, health and health care, social dimensions of disaster, community-based research methods, and social theory. John received his B.A. degree in Political Science and M.S. degree in Sociology from Mississippi State University, where he worked as a Research Assistant at the Social Science Research Center. John obtained his Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His dissertation was on the topic of limited resource farmers and community-based cooperative organizations in the southern United States.
