Dr. Warner currently serves as Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives for Louisiana State University.  This is a half-time nine-month appointment administrative position that requires significant interactions with undergraduate students. The overall goal of this office is to develop and coordinate activities that result in improvements in the mentoring of students, faculty, and staff in order to achieve excellence at the highest levels.  One of the major charges of this position is to create the kind of environment across campus that LSU has  created in their graduate program in chemistry, i.e. an environment where all students (particularly minority students) can excel in the SMET areas.

The graduate program in chemistry at LSU is the nation’s largest producer of African American Ph.D.s in chemistry.  Data from NSF indicates that LSU produced eight of the forty-four African American Ph.D.s in chemistry during the year 2001.  Another charge of OSI is to foster an environment where our best undergraduates are highly competitive for major scholarships such as Goldwater, Marshall, and Rhodes.  Still another charge is to assist our most outstanding faculty in the nomination and receipt of major external awards.
