To Whom It May Concern, Sir or Madam:

It pleases my soul to recommend Professor James Tomek to any teaching position for which he may apply:French, English, Philosophy, Theology, Religion, Music, Art History, and it pleases me to give the very highest recommendation I can give.

I have known Jim Tomek since 1972 when I drove to the airport to get him for the job interview for the position he took as French Professor at Delta State in which he continues as I type.He is my friend with whom I discuss anything that matters from baseball to Eschatology. We have gone together all over the globe to go to museums to see the work of such artists as Matisse, and we have attended gatherings in New York and Toronto and Chicago and San Diego and Washington, DC and New Orleans and Atlanta and Memphis and Hot Springs to listen to scholarly papers and readings by the best writers of our time at MLA Conventions, SAMLA Conventions, SCMLA Conventions. We have gone togetherto universities such as the University of Alabama just to hear such writers and thinkers as Denise Levertov and Kenneth Burke.Furthermore, I have team-taught classes in literature, honors, and cross-disciplinary subjects with him.I have gone through all the processes with him of making a co-authored book:Windows:After Matisse (his essays, my poetry, collages of Mary Anne Ross all collaged together into an interwoven unity).

So, I know him for absolute intellectual rigor and creative genius in both teaching and writing, and I have watched students, colleagues, audiences light up in response to his teaching, lecturing, performing.

You canít do better than him as a colleague.
