Habitat: Growing in seasonally inundated woods; some associates include Sebastiania fruticosa, Lobelia amoena, Sabal minor, Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Viburnum obovatum, Epidendrum conopseum, Hypoxis leptocarpa, Rhynchospora caduca, & Rhynchospora miliaceae.

Habitat: Tall grass prairie, dominated by Schizachyrium scoparium. Highly calcareous soil inhibits pine growth. Brush encroachment over the east facing slope of prairie, becoming quite dense. Scattered with Quercus, Prunus and Crataegus.
