Unit 9 Goals
During this unit, you will:
- Study patterns of discrimination by an ascribed characteristic, gender;
- Examine factors that contribute to stratification by gender;
- View outcomes of gender discrimination in various aspects of people's lives;
- Consider theoretical explanations of gender stratfication;
- Learn how social movements operate by studying the history, goals and accomplishments of the feminist movement.
Unit 9 Objectives
Upon completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- Explain some of the differences between a male and female worldview, and how these differences are constructed;
- Describe how agents of socialization perpetuate gender differences;
- Identify some of the advantages associated with being male and disadvantages associated with being female;
- Contrast different theoretical perspectives to understanding the causes and effects of gender differences;
- List the basic ideas of feminism and describe different types of feminist movements.
