Unit 3 Goals
During this unit, students will:
- Learn how society is perpetuated from generation to generation;
- Understand how social norms and values are imprinted on children, and how children internalize their social environment;
- Appreciate how our social knowledge is embedded in our social institutions;
- Recognize how socialization is a lifelong process, and how we are shaped at each stage of the life course by our social environment.
Unit 3 Objectives
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- Describe how a child's personality and cognitive development are influenced by their social environment;
- Identify four important agents of socialization and explain how they influence individual development;
- Characterize important characteristics of people at different stages of their lives
- Describe conditions in total institutions, and the processes of socialization that are characteristic of these circumstance.
