Assignment:  Write a two-page reflective essay on the readings using the following as a guideline:

McMichael discusses five counter-movements to the globalization project (fundamentalism, environmentalism, feminism, human rights, and cosmopolitan localism).  He asserts that these constitute one element of the globalization project since they express the conditions that globalization seeks to appropriate.

Consider how one of these counter-movements is expressed in the Mississippi Delta or the American South.  Explain how this counter-movement is tied to globalization, and address how it defines development.  How do the issues that arise from this case reorient our understanding of development processes?
