Instructions:  Prepare a two page essay on ONE of the topics identified below.  Be sure to develop an explanation or argument in your essay.

Topic:  Sustainable Development is sometimes portrayed as linking economic, ecological and/or social values.  Consider the cases described in “Bumper Crop of Coffee Labels” and “Preserving an Old-Growth Wilderness at the Ends of the Earth.”  In what ways do they meld economic, ecological and social concerns?  Are they suitable models of sustainable development?  Are they doing enough to build a sustainable society?  What changes might result in more sustainable outcomes in these cases?
