Assignment:  Prepare a two-page essay (typed, double-spaced, 10 or 12 point font, 1 inch margins) on the following topic.  Follow the guidelines on the course website.

Topic:  An important function of social groups is to establish and enforce social control.  Describe how both small, informal groups, and large, formal organizations create and reproduce systems of social control.  What role does labeling play in these processes?
