Collaboration With Other Rural Polls

The Delta Rural Poll is working with similar surveys in other states to develop a national data base of comparable indicators of rural conditions.

Our most recent meeting took place on August 10, 2006 in Louisville, KY, at the Annual Meeting of the Rural Sociological Society.  Representatives from the Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll, the Nebraska Rural Poll, the Ohio Survey of Food, Agriculture and the Environment, the Indiana Rural Poll based at Purdue University, and the Delta Rural Poll discussed their experiences, while workshop participants from the University of Kentucky, Clemson University, the University of Nevada-Reno, Michigan State University, the University of North Dakota, Auburn University, and others discussed the possibilities for a national poll of rural areas.

On February 14, 2006, a smaller group consisting of representatives from Purdue University, the University of Nebraska and Delta State University met  in San Antonio, TX, at the Annual Meeting of the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals.  We presented a session on using rural polls in extension planning, and met to organize a national rural poll collaboration.  Click here for more information.

Partnerships

The Delta Rural Poll works with a variety of community and academic organizations through collaborative and partnership arrangements.

At Delta State University, the Delta Rural Poll regularly partners with the Institute for Community-Based Research, another program of the Center for Community and Economic Development, to carry out data collection in Delta communities.  The Delta Rural Poll has also collaborated with the Delta Center for Culture and Learning on heritage tourism projects.

Statewide, the Delta Rural Poll has a productive collaboration with the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) at Mississippi State University, directed by Dr. Arthur Cosby.  The Survey Research Unit, under the direction of Dr. Wolfgang Frese, has collected data for our surveys.  The SSRC has also provided funding to carry out the Delta Rural Poll.
